How Long Does a Bathroom Remodel Take? A Week-by-Week Timeline
How long will your bathroom be out of use? It is the question we hear most. Every job is a bit different. Still, the phases are the same. Here is an honest, week-by-week look at what happens.

The Short Answer
Most full remodels take about two to four weeks of active work. The bath is out of use for much of that time. Small updates can be done in a few days. Big, high-end jobs with layout changes take longer. The main delay is usually material lead time, not the labor.
Phase 1: Planning and Design (1–3 Weeks Before Work Begins)
First we lock in the design. We pick and order the materials. We pull permits if your job needs them. This happens before the clock starts. It still matters a lot. Early orders prevent mid-job delays. Tile, vanities, and custom glass take the longest. So we plan around them.
Phase 2: Demolition (1–2 Days)
Out with the old. We cover your floors and paths. We pull the old fixtures, tile, and finishes. Then we haul the mess away. Demo is also when hidden issues show up. Think old water damage or bad wiring. Catching them now is why a budget cushion helps.
Phase 3: Rough-In (2–4 Days)
This is the behind-the-walls phase. We update or move pipes and drains. We bring the wiring up to code. We make any framing changes. Many areas need an inspection before the walls close. You will not see this work in the end. But it sets the quality of the whole job.
Phase 4: Waterproofing, Tile, and Finishes (1–2 Weeks)
This is the bulk of the visible work. It cannot be rushed. We waterproof the wet zones. We set the wall and floor tile. We let it cure the right way. Then we add the vanity, counter, fixtures, and glass. We paint and finish the small details. Tile and waterproofing need drying time. That time protects your home from leaks.
Phase 5: Final Walkthrough and Punch List (1 Day)
We check every detail with you. We fix any small punch-list items. The job is not done until you are happy. We also show you how to care for your new finishes.
What Speeds Up — or Slows Down — Your Timeline
Speeds it up: keeping the same layout, choosing in-stock materials, and making choices early.
Slows it down: moving plumbing, custom or backordered parts, hidden damage, and required inspections. A good contractor plans for all of this up front. They will not surprise you later.
How to Make Your Remodel Go Smoothly
Lock in your choices before demo day. Ask for a written schedule. Plan for the bath to be off-limits the whole time. Is it your only bath? Then ask about sequencing to limit the hassle. Clear talk and early choices matter most. They keep your job on track.
